Trend Alert: 8 Domino Sets to Play and Display
It may have been a while since you last played a round of dominoes. It has for us, but the latest versions are so display-worthy—and fun to arrange on their own—that we’re reconsidering the game. Here are eight sets that look good on coffee tables and shelves; some are also conversation pieces.
Fun fact: the oldest known version of the game was found in King Tut’s tomb. For modern pharaohs, there are Prada and Bottega Veneta dominoes (($3,350 and $5,100 respectively). Also peruse the wide array of vintage decks for sale online at comparatively bargain prices.
Above: Moon Dominoes, $20, from Fredericks & May are made of Baltic birch and feature phases of the moon in place of the classic dots (“pips” in dominoes lingo).
Above: Commune Design collaborated with custom guitar maker Wylie Gelber on this hand-crafted Gelber & Sons for Commune Domino Set, $525. It’s shown in violet and is also available in crimson, yellow, aqua, and brown.
Above: Play with your dominoes and eat them too: a 28-tile Pure Dark Chocolate Domino Set is $45 from Casa Bosques, Mexico City’s art and design bookstore with a sideline in artisanal sweets.
Above: Another Fredricks & Mae twist: Flag Dominoes, $20. “Silkscreened nautical flags communicate numbers 0-6.”
Above: From Etsy, the Colorburst Wooden Domino Set is currently marked down from $57 to $42.75 via The Craft Houses.
Above: Pottery Barn’s Resin Dominoes Set is on sale for $46.97, originally $99.50.
Above: Printworks Wooden Dominoes Set is $30 from the Forest & Field Collective, a Vermont-based online shop of well-made gifts.
Above: Materia Madura is an innovative Puerto Rican workshop that makes building materials and other designs from waste: it turns coffee grounds into limited-edition Dominoes, $62.
