Psst…What We Loved in June

by Remodelista Team

Welcome to Psst, where each month the Remodelista and Gardenista editors share an inside look at what we’ve been reading, watching, coveting, pinning, visiting, and otherwise loving lately. Without further ado, a glimpse of what we’ve been up to in June:

european grain festival land sorten 0 Above: Happening now and noted by both Julie and Alexa: The European Grain Festival in Mols, Denmark, “a gathering of bakers, breeders, millers, farmers, chefs and grain enthusiasts exploring the future of cereals through practice, research and shared knowledge.”
wild sorrel cookbooks shop 1 Above: “I visited Wild Sorrel Cookbooks, a new cookbook shop on East 13th Street, for the first time a couple weeks back and it has such a lovely, personal point of view. Vintage cookbooks are mixed in with the new, along with culinary journals, zines, and a few home items. The owner, Troy Chatterton, was a longtime bookseller at Three Lives & Co. before opening his own shop (which he crowd-funded via Kickstarter). Troy has also curated a city-appropriate selection of garden books.” – Laura Fenton; illustration from Wild Sorrel Cookbooks
flower collection box bolster benefield 2 Above: “I love this flower collection box—the little glass slides are so sweet. My mom used to save flowers between parchment paper but it all became messy and they slid around. This seems like a better solution for saving a collection.” – Kier Holmes; photograph from Bolster Benefield
lonnies boerum hill brooklyn 3 Above: “I had a special belated birthday dinner with my brother at Lonnies, a new restaurant in Boerum Hill. We sat at the stunning rust-colored marble bar (which I’m guessing is Rosso Alicante?) and shared the morel toast, the burger, and the Basque cheesecake—all phenomenal.” – Morgan Goldberg; image from @lonniesnyc

marcel breuer nicole najafi 5 Above: “After a lengthy restoration, Marcel Breuer’s own cottage in Wellfleet became available for rent, and I snagged a week here in June. As I write this, I’m sitting at his desk, listening to his radio, and looking out at the same view of the pond that he enjoyed for years.” – Nicole Najafi
kathe kaczmerzyk linen kerchiefs 6 Above: “I’ve been loving the work of Polish-American weaver Kathe Kaczmerzyk currently based in Malmö, Sweden. She studied fine art in New York City and Baltimore and only recently returned to her weaving practice after a long sojourn working in food across Scandinavia. She weaves work on a large 1980s Glimåkra loom; her handwoven linen kerchiefs can be worn tied around the hair, for wrapping fruit, summer picnics, or beneath a special bowl or table arrangement.” – Alexa Hotz; photograph from Kathe Kaczmerzyk
annie quigley cph ice bucket 7 Above: “Obsessed with this idea for a party: drink bucket meets flower arrangement, as spotted at the collaboration between Bankston Architectural hardware and For Scale in Copenhagen this month.” – Annie Quigley
kiosk beeswax sheep 8 Above: “To my dismay, tiny months have been fluttering around my bedside light. Time to stock my closet with new moth traps and reapply cedar oil to the cedar rings on hangers. But I need something more potent and this charming little beeswax sheep caught my eye. It’s said to be an “anti-moth sculpture.” Made in Italy, it’s scented with eucalyptus, lavender, mint, and geranium, among other things.” – Margot Guralnick; photograph from Kiosk
boutté spray nozzle 9 Above: “I’m finally giving attention to my starved potted plants on a regular basis and it’s been paying off. My humble garden, arranged in Bacsac planters I bought ages ago, consists of a raspberry bush, blueberry (going strong for six years in spite of neglect!), pink blueberry, a white Buddleia, chives, parsley, thyme, rosemary, and white alpine strawberries. I upgraded our garden hose to the Water Right one and use it with this nozzle from French brand Boutté. Highly recommend all including the Bacsacs—they’re super mobile.” – Alexa Hotz; photograph from Boutté
deborah eydmann parc monceau 10 Above: “Don’t forget to enjoy your urban greens—their refreshing and restorative power is real. I spent a wonderful afternoon walking around the Royal Botanic Gardens in Edinburgh, Scotland earlier this month and I love visiting at least one garden or park on my city breaks. Currently in Paris during a heatwave, the beautiful Parc Monceau has become my favorite place to sit in the shade and watch the world go by.” – Deborah Eydmann
