Quick Takes With: John Pawson

“It’s all architecture”: This is John Pawson’s vision, whether he is designing a home or a stage set. His singular focus and lifelong commitment? “Rigorously simple” design.
About his work, which ranges in scale and type: “Whether at the scale of a monastery, a house, a saucepan, or a ballet, everything is traceable back to a consistent set of preoccupations with mass, volume, surface, proportion, junction, geometry, repetition, light and ritual. In this way, even something as modest as a fork can become a vehicle for much broader ideas about how we live and what we value.”
Today John writes in from London with his favorite white paint, a seminal book, and a glimpse of his own new book, John Pawson: The Minimal Home.
