Just ahead? A Shaker exhibit, the cool cookbook we’re pre-ordering, a French guest house, tomato (wallpaper) summer, and more on our radar. Read on…
Above: Admiring (from afar): Rue du Four, a guesthouse in a former silk factory and the newest addition to Les Maisons de L’Heure Vide in France. (See our story on the first guest house: The Promise of Rest: A New Rural Retreat in the Cévennes.)- “I love these mobiles and wall hangings,” says Margot. “Great baby presents for midcentury modernists.” (And they’re on sale: Take 20 percent off with code MOVE20 now through June 8.)
- Ooh, we’d love to stop into The Shakers: A World in the Making at Vitra Design Museum in Rhein, Germany, on view now.
- “A brief note of recommendation for these sweet birthday candles with—surprise!—colorful wicks,” writes Annie.
- Our friend Twig Hutchinson on Wes Anderson’s baths. (Eating in the bath: yay/nay?)
- Debuting in the US: triple-layered blown glass lamps. (Hat tip: Margot.)
- A cookbook we can’t wait for, courtesy of Clare de Boer + co. at King in NYC.
- Never knew we could want a fridge so badly.
- This old-school-inspired message board is now out in mini edition.
- Pretty flowered pillowcases for a summery bed.
- Introducing the world’s slimmest vacuum cleaner.
- Love tomatoes? Love a good wallpaper? This is for you. (Hat tip: Laura.)
- Old oak fence posts repurposed as bee and butterfly hotels. Genius.
- The best outdoor bistro dining sets, from high to low.
- And inspo for gardeners who are color-shy.
- Sanso, purveyor of artful houseplants in artful vessels, will be hosting a workshop at Baroo in LA (named Best Restaurant of 2024 by the New York Times). “You’ll choose from a selection of plants and vessels to pair and arrange as you learn essential tips on sourcing, potting, pruning, and caring for your plants.”
- Wait, this is how asparagus grow?!
- Marie wrote in to tell us about a June 10th workshop at Brooklyn Botanic Garden about upcoming urban forestry projects in NYC: “On Earth Day this year, the city stopped accepting new street tree requests on its 311 site. Because the Parks Department has suffered even more budget cuts, that greening program, essential to cool a heating city, has been halted. It is now up to privately funded entities to plant and care for most of the trees in NYC, whose trees are one of its greatest and most visible assets.”
